So I haven’t updated in a while!  This is due to the rare medical syndrome “lethargy”.

Lots of stuff has been done!  Sort of.

Is that more sprites? BLASPHEMOUS

Currently, all these Player Characters and Enemies can do is sorta rock back and forth.  This will change!  I’ve been adding different options for things they can do, like “block” or “attack an enemy”.  If we get real ambitious, we might add “use spell”, or (brace yourself) “take damage”.

Also, you may noticed that there is something moderately visible through the aero border of my window!  What is it?  It’s Turntable.fm!

Obviously, you care more about my musical choices than the game (the “purpose” of this blog) so I will rant on them.  ”Something In The Way” is surprisingly good for being by Nirvana, a band I find generally bland.  ”Pokemon Theme Song” is the song that you should start quoting if you’re asked to do an impromptu speech and you have no idea what to say.  ”Hadley” and “Edge of Forever” are two songs by the band Spaces, which you should totally check out (they’re on bandcamp).  Uh, and then there’s other stuff but I don’t feel like writing about those because of my aforementioned “lethargy”.

Uh, anyway our game is rad and you should totally pre-order it.

Right now only Reece’s avatar is getting attacked because screw him.  Also, the Player Characters can’t fight back at all yet.

we have our friend the Grim Reaper scooting his cute little feet around a maze that Vadim made.  The trees and snow are created by yours truly.  Obviously, my pixel artistry prowess has gotten me multiple job offers, but I’ve turned them down in order to post more updates on this blog.

Anyway, the

collisions work: you can’t walk through trees no matter how hard you try.  Also, the view follows the reaper around the map.  The reaper is in the center of the screen unless it’s at the border.

I’m using %38 of my hard drive, and about %30 is Minecraft. If it gets too large, I’ll have to start crunching the map to save space.

Finally, here is the whole friggin thing.

Now, I only did this, because I’m at work, and I should be working. It’s only Wednesday and I’m ready to go home! Also I’ve been cleaning up my coworkers mess, which includes paint buckets and pizza boxes and some other food that just stinks.

The roof is also leaking into a bucket, which is driving me crazy.

I’ve been working on the enchantments.  They aren’t done.

Vadim has been working on spell file reading.  It’s not done.

Reece has been working on sprites.  They’re almost done!

Vadim and I have been working on fixing a file-reading bug for enemies.  It works now!  Enemies now successfully load into the memory.

The first thing that I did this week was create a very advanced AI that will eventually be the NPC interaction script.  Unfortunately, this script does not yet pass the Turing Test.  I believe it’s close though.

If I were the player, I would choose to purchase 3 Shiz-cats.

The second thing that I did was work on the Overworld programming.  Movement is possible now!

This hooded figure shuffles around quite aesthetically.

Third: because the file-reading bug is fixed, I’ve been able to work on the Battle screen.  The health and magic-point bars now display correctly!  Also, I made it so I could decrease one of the Player Character’s health points.  I chose Reece’s avatar, because I was annoyed with him licking my head.

is what you would be saying if this was in a real game.  Don’t worry, though, this is just a simulation.  No Templar Knights were harmed in the making of this blog post.

There’s one sprite I really like that he worked on this week.  It was a blob with an eyeball in it.

Here is a picture of two small programs that I wrote this week while Reece and Vadim were working on the programming for the game.  On the left is a sprite-testing program.  Using it, Reece can test any sprite that he makes right away, instead of waiting for someone to update the game code to see if it works.  The sprite-testing program cycles through all of the animations, and using the keyboard Reece can control which animation is playing.

On the right is an overworld testing program.  Right now the overworld sprite animates, but movement isn’t implemented yet.  Stay tuned!

Reece has been making Artificial Intelligence for the enemies in battles.  This game will be the singularity, so you’d better play our game if you want a good place in the New World Order.

Vadim has been working on the file reading for spells and enemies, but it is broken right now, through no fault of his own.

Also, I applied to UC Berkeley yesterday.  Wish me luck!

As you can see, the character “Arahel” (I’m sure you can tell which one that is) has a health-point value of ( out of (, which is quite good.  However, the magic-point value here is a measly box out of a possible total of box.  Vadoom and Morley both have scores of “Test” here.  What could this mean?  Find out next week.

The enemy (again, it’s pretty obvious who this is) doesn’t have any health or magic bars yet.  Too bad for him!

Also, you probably can’t tell from the still image above, but each of the sprites animate.  We are very excited about this.

Reece has been arranging sprites to be used by the game as battle sprites.  This is a good thing, because at this time we only have one that is usable.

Vadim has been planning out spells.  These are quite good.  An example of a spell that he has planned is “Natures’ [sic] Vengeance”.
