“Damage Calculations” or “How I learned to stop worrying and love the gaussian distribution”

Reece has been working on sprites. They are pretty amazing. Would you like to see them? That’s nice.

Vadim has been working on Minecraft and his castle actually looks really good. Here’s a picture.

Actually, he has a good reason for not being at school.  He will be back on development on Monday.

The damage calculations have been revamped, and now use fancy math stuffs such as “arctan”.  Here is an output of Reece’s avatar attacking mine.

The number on the left is the base damage, which is calculated using a long and complicated process and involves the weapon’s base damage, the attacker’s strength and the defender’s constitution stat.  The number in the middle is the luck modifier, which is shown as usually negative here because Reece’s avatar has a low luck stat.  This is calculated into the damage to get the final damage, which is the number on the right.

Critical hits are now calculated using the dexterity stat; however, misses are still under development as they have a more complicated calculation than critical hits.
